Limited Edition Reprins of the "Mud Pies and Silver Spoons" Cookbook are available for purchase.

Many DPVA members have a well loved, tattered copy of the original Mud Pies and Silver Spoons cookbook printed in 1985. But when sisters, daughters, daughters in law, neighbors and friends have tried to get copies of the coveted collection, the out of print best seller has been hard to find.  So, for the 25th anniversary of its first printing and as a special fundraiser for the 2009 Designer Show House and Gardens, a limited edition reprint of 1,000 copies is being made available at $20. including tax.

The book is illustrated by Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist Mike Peters, who created a delightful Fairy Godmother character named “Spoonella.”  Erma Bombeck, Dayton’s first woman humorist, wrote a foreword for the book including a unique “recipe” of her own.

“The 470 recipes are as ‘fresh and easy’ as they ever were,” remarks Chris Saunders, the Dayton Philharmonic Women’s Association 1985 Project Chair. Current cooks agree, including Dayton Daily News Family Cooking columnist Carol Rini. She demonstrated some of the recipes at 2 PM on Tuesday, May 12, when she appeared with her husband at the Designer Show House and Gardens to share some of the appetizers, entrée and dessert ideas it contains to make ahead for summer entertaining.

The easy open coil bound book is 360 pages including special sections on party planning, directions for edible garnishes, gifts of food and special containers, quick dishes from the pantry shelf, kitchen tested hints from experienced cooks, tips on preserving garden foods and decorating with fresh  flowers and plants.  A complete multi-cross referenced index makes looking up a favorite recipe or planning a menu simple.
